A new redistricting map for Omaha has been approved by the City Council in a contentious 4-3 vote, sparking concerns that it will weaken minority voting power in North Omaha. Democratic council members voiced the strongest objections.
Republican council members defended the plan, saying it is essential for accommodating balanced population growth following the 2025 census data, the Omaha World-Herald reported. The approved map now goes to Mayor Jean Stothert for final approval.
