A major winter storm brought Omaha to a standstill Saturday, knocking out power to more than 15,000 residents and closing major highways, including I-80 and I-480, the Omaha World-Herald reported.
Emergency services responded to more than 200 vehicle accidents as a result of the storm, according to the World-Herald. Douglas County declared a local state of emergency to coordinate snow removal and utility restoration efforts, streamlining the process of clearing roads and restoring power.
